Special Learning, Inc. Holds Its Monthly Lunch With An Expert Webinar Series on Puberty and Autism: Social Skill Development in Pre-Adolescence and Adolescence

Special Learning, Inc. a comprehensive autism solutions company today announced that it is hosting the fourth of its live webinar series called Lunch With An Expert (LWAE). This free 60-minute live autism webinar is on the topic of “Puberty and Autism: Social Skill Development in Pre-adolescence and Adolescence” which will be broadcasted on March 13, at 12pm – 1pm (EST). This month’s topic is aimed at parents, caregivers, educators and others who are faced with a whole new set of challenges and special circumstances to consider vis-à-vis puberty and caring for pre-adolescents and adolescents with Autism and special needs.

The speaker for this webinar is Ms. Christina Giammarco, MSSA, LSW, an ABA therapist and social worker, who will share her expertise on the topic and provide a content rich discussion on (1) Successful strategies for implementing a social skills group; (2) Special considerations when preparing for puberty; and (3) Parental concerns during puberty. The webinar also aims to answer commonly asked questions such as: How soon should I prepare for puberty? How can I help my child’s school start a social skills group? What are the social norms and rules that I should be aware of for my elementary aged child?

About the speaker
Christina Giammarco graduated from the University of Dayton in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a minor in Women’s Studies. While attending UD she worked as an ABA therapist on a home team. She then went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Case Western Reserve University with a focus in Children, Youth, and Families. Throughout her academic and professional career she has focused in the areas of adoption, domestic violence, teen crisis intervention, and autism. She joined Step By Step Academy in January 2010 and is excited about being able to combine her interests of Social Work and autism. She is currently working on various projects about autism and puberty, in which she hopes to make parents more comfortable about addressing these needs with their children. Additionally she is working with various consumers doing individual and group counseling sessions with focus on gaining social skills and being able to identify and appropriately manage feelings and emotions.
